This was one of the first paintings of the imaginary portraits of women in hats that I did. She was a breath of fresh air to paint while waiting for the paint to dry on a commissioned portrait that had its challenges. I love the freedom in design, colour and marks, which have all contributed to my commissioned work becoming free-er too.
