This imaginary portrait from the series of women in hats, started off from a different place than all the others. I had done a preliminary sketch for a commission, but then discarded it to start again as it wasn't quite right. But it was perfect to use the bare bones of that sketch - basically the position of the eyes in relation to the nose and mouth - to paint this lady in a hat (beret).Everything else is from my imagination - hair, hat and even face shape. I really enjoy painting this series of imaginary portraits as I let loose with colour, design and marks.
