This is a rare profile painting in my series of ladies in hats. I saw the shape of the hat while lying in bed and had to get up to start sketching. It is painted with palette knives and although I am tight with the shapes and design, I am free in my use of paint and really enjoy the marks made when using palette knives - especially when layering the paint. It brings all kinds of moods and textures to the painting.
